Driving a Ford Focus
With a broad range of talents and a driving experience that’s difficult to match within its class, the Ford Focus is still at the very top of the league.
Ride and handling
If you’re looking for fun away from the school run, the Ford Focus is as capable as ever of giving you the sort of precise control and feel you crave from a sporty hatchback. Unsurprisingly, handling will far surpass anything in the crossover market, but this brilliant family car is a real pleasure to drive and certainly as responsive as anything else in its sector. There are plenty of engine options ranging between 1.0 or 1.5 litre petrols and 1.5 or 2.0 litre diesels with a number different power outputs available too.
Styling
The latest Focus has sharpened new looks, taking design cues from its smaller sibling the Fiesta. A lowered stance betrays that sporty legacy and with a silhouette that recalls the latest A Class we think this might be the best looking Ford Focus yet.
Inside the cabin
Ford have updated the dashboard significantly on the Focus and the experience has been modernised with a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity as standard. Seat comfort is impressive and the driving position excellent and whilst the materials don’t have as upmarket feel as some competitors, such as the Audi A3 and Mercedes A-Class, the cabin is a nice place to park yourself even for longer journeys.
Practicality
Boot space matches most of its rivals with a reasonably generous 375 litres up for grabs, only really the gargantuan Skoda Octavia trunk will offer much more. Seating four adults is also more than comfortable enough with plenty of room for legs, elbows and heads in front and back- it’s one of the roomiest family hatchbacks available today.
