New electric cars in 2022
Audi Q6 e-tron
Audi is advancing their electric offering with the introduction of the Q6 e-tron. It follows on from the Q4 e-tron and the e-tron GT and is said to be its most advanced EV yet. While the finer details have yet to be disclosed, the range could reach around 380 miles. Plus, its similar architecture to the e-tron GT provides ultra-fast charging. Finally, of course, it has Audi’s signature styling for the icing on the cake.
Citroen Ami
If you’re looking for an affordable compact city car, then the Citroën Ami is the perfect option. It’s 100% electric and can be charged with a conventional three-pin plug! However, you won’t be breaking any speed records in this tiny car, as it has a top speed of just 28 mph. Plus, with a range of 43 miles, you can’t wander too far without charging. Citroen is considering offering this model on a leasing basis too. They say depending on the deposit, it works out similar to the cost of a monthly mobile phone tariff.
Cupra Born
Cupra is set to give us a sporty rival to the VW ID.3 – the Cupra Born. This sleek and stylish model features different battery options - the better the battery, the more it costs. Its rapid charging provides a top-up from 10% to 80% in just over half an hour. Plus, the range is also good with up to 335 miles offered by the flagship model.
Nissan Ariya
Nissan hopes to have similar success in the EV market with its new addition – the Ariya. This SUV features bold styling and an impressive range of 310 miles (depending on the options chosen). Plus, the new e-4orce four-wheel-drive system offers an improved driving experience and features Standard, Sport, Eco and Snow mode. Like the exterior, you can expect a similar minimalist aesthetic alongside a touchscreen and digital driver display on the inside.
Subaru Solterra
The manufacturer most commonly known for its striking and powerful Impreza is now going all-electric with the Solterra. This model is being created in connection with Toyota’s bZ4X, which means it’ll be available in front and all-wheel drive. The range is good too - up to 329 miles from the front-wheel-drive variation. Best of all, you still get Subaru’s off-road capabilities with its impressive all-wheel-drive system.
New hybrid, petrol and diesel cars in 2022
Fiat Panda
The much-loved Fiat Panda is back and the manufacturer says it’s staying true to its roots with a low-cost, great value, entry-level car. This model is available in three versions – Cross, Sport and Life. You can also choose from hybrid or petrol power, and we’re sure if it takes off, electric options will follow.
Ford Fiesta
One of the nation’s most popular compact cars is having a refresh for 2022. Its most notable difference is the exterior, particularly the front with new grille design and headlamps. It’ll also be available in the ST and ST-Line models, which of course, showcase Ford’s more angular look.
Ineos Grenadier
If you’re looking for a rugged SUV that really packs a punch off-road, then the Grenadier from Ineos could be for you. This model harks back to the design of classic 4x4s with a 3.0-litre petrol or diesel engine and an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Everything about this off-road vehicle is built for driving in extremes, including the interior. There’s minimal technology on board, so it’s easier to fix if you find yourself in the middle of nowhere.
Lotus Emira
If you love sleek styling and power under the hood, the Lotus Emira will be right up your street. This model is set to be the last petrol-powered offering coming to the market before the manufacturer goes all-electric. So, it could be the perfect time to buy your dream car. Behind the wheel, you’ll feel the force of a supercharged 3.5 litre V6 Toyota powered engine with either a manual or automatic gearbox. Depending on the specifications, it’ll set you back between £75-85,000. But from its exterior and interior design and styling, it packs a lot of bang for your buck.
Honda Civic
The much-loved Honda Civic will be gracing showrooms in autumn, but this time as a hatchback. Following on from the saloon model popularity, this is being hailed as an alternative to the Ford Focus. A hybrid engine comes as standard, but the main differences come at the rear. Different taillights, a connected light bar that straddles the tailgate’s entire back, and those all-important chrome pseudo exhausts to make it look extra sporty.
2022 and beyond
Over the next few years, we’ll see many new and innovative models move into the market. In addition, several other cars have been seen out on the test tracks, including the possibility of a new Ford Mondeo or something that looks very similar (Ford haven’t actually confirmed it yet!). BMW has also been putting in the miles testing various models in the range. Finally, the 5-series is scheduled to be replaced in 2024, so could an all-electric replacement be on the way? You’ll have to wait and see.
All-in-all, expect to see more electric cars and hybrids as we head into a market without petrol and diesel. Are you considering the switch to electric yet?
